LEKTRON was founded in 1975 as a specialty lighting consultancy / distributor; in 1995 we became Lektron LED Technologies. 1995 was a pivotal year for us because that’s the year we were presented with a unique challenge. Phillips Petroleum, a long-time Lektron client was having a serious problem keeping the red fascia band that surrounds their retail service stations illuminated. The high output fluorescents they were using were expensive to operate, unreliable, and prone to breakage and light degradation over time—in short they were a constant maintenance headache. Because of our success and expertise at lighting other Phillips projects they approached us about taking over development of an experimental LED lighting system that they thought could be a solution to their fascia band problem. Recognizing the potential of LEDs as a classic disruptive technology, Lektron management seized the opportunity and never looked back. The Phillips project was such an overwhelming success that LEKTRON was awarded a million dollar contract to build the system for Phillips’ gas stations and retail outlets throughout the US. As a result we became one of the very first companies in the United States to commercially produce a viable LED back-lit sign system.

In 1998, we brought our LED system to Burger King Corporation. Our system was submitted to extensive tests and evaluations to determine the viability of its application. After meeting all custom specifications, LEKTRON was approved as a manufacturer/vendor for the Burger King Corporation to produce an LED Parapet Light Band for their restaurants and became a primary vendor of LED systems for one of the largest signage/re-image projects in the country. We’ve installed LED parapet bands for Burger King now for over 8 years and the program has been terrifically successful for both Burger King and Lektron.
